The Gospel Hall was built on Corporation Road in 1891. This was before the surrounding houses were built. What is now Corporation Road was then a rough track leading to a gravel pit. The original door to the hall was on the end of the building, on Hyde Street and for some years it was known as Hyde Street Hall.
This, however, was not the start of the church, which had met in at least three different rented rooms over the previous twenty years or more. We plan to add more of the church’s history here in the near future, including something of the local people who were responsible for its commencement.
